Your definition of depression . The first step to recovering from depression and discovering life again is to uncover it . Let's work out what your definition of depression is!
So...now it's time to look at your definition of depression! The first step is Uncovery. Let's start....!
OK...so you've decided to uncover your definition of depression
to take yourself, and this process, seriously. Congratulations! You're on the way. Your definition of depression is about to unfold!
Have you committed
to the process 100%?
And are you taking action
as we move along...right now? If not, please go back to these sections now……it’s the most essential part of the process. If you have decided, committed and are taking action, then let’s move on to Uncovering your Depression. Let's look at your definition. What actually is it? Do you have it? Depression tests and symptom profiles can be a great guide for you, but fundamentally, let’s face it, if you are googling "depression" in the first place, that's a sign that something just ain’t right for you in your life, so let's take a look at the shape your depression takes. Let's define it and describe it.....so that we have your problem well stated, and so that once we have done that, we are half way to solving it! If we truly define the problem we are half way to pin-pointing the solutions. We need to know what we are working with....what is it we are trying to solve here?? What is the specific help YOU need? Depression has been explored and defined a million times over, and medically it has a definition. In fact, medically there are many types of it and many suggestions for depression help. For your purposes we are going to ignore these definitions with their labels and take a look at what is happening for you. Oh yes you may have chemical imbalances and symptoms and so on and so forth, but let's look at these and beyond them. Let's look at what is causing those imbalances, because you body is inherently designed to be "in balance"....and that means mentally, emotionally, biochemically, electrically, physically and spiritually. So if you are unbalanced in any of those areas, look at it as though someone is knocking at your door and trying to alert you to something. Something is causing you to go out of balance, get symptoms and be depressed. You, we, human beings are inherently NOT designed to live in depression...an unbalanced state, so, as that is the case, what is the problem?? Why are you unbalanced, out of homeostasis, feeling depressed? And to discover this, we can do depression tests, look at your symptoms, and then turn within for help! Only you know, even if it is buried deep inside, what the problem is. What if you looked at your depression as a messenger? What if it is signaling that you are somehow out of balance in some way? What if it is trying to let you know that something in the way you are doing your life is not working for you……is not right for you....it is throwing you off centre....is making you unbalanced…and depressed? In looking for your definition, we need to consider all these things.

Remember, our systems are finely designed to return to homeostasis and balance, so when they don’t, it’s a siren alert for us to look at what needs to change. Any time our systems go out of balance we get symptoms...in this case depression. While your body will have tried to return you to a state of balance and health, your continued depression suggests that it is struggling. For some reason, it just can’t seem to keep you in balance and healthy. Why? What do you need to change in order for your system to return to a balanced state of health? Is it your lifestyle, your thoughts, your job, your misaligned back, your diet, your relationship to yourself or another, allergies, or something else? Or a combination of things?
